Ubisano was partly established to release the first album by RM Hubbert, First and Last.
The initial run came in the form of a deluxe, hand stitched book which featured work by Glasgow based artists including Sarah Lowndes, Danny Saunders, Toby Paterson and Luke Fowler. These 100 copies were soon sold and a more standard CD albeit one which was home produced and packaged in delicately recycled card. After the best part of a year touting these around shows of all sizes from Godspeed You! Black Emperor supports to show’s in people’s kitchens as part of his ‘Will Play for Food’ scheme, the opportunity to reach the rest of the world saw Hubby released under the Bosman ruling to join Chemikal Underground Records.
Under their auspices, First and Last, received both a vinyl and proper international release. More importantly, he didn’t have to manufacture and post every one of the several thousand copies sold. It also opened the way for more shows, both in his own right and with the likes of Mogwai, Aidan Moffat and Bill Wells and more recently, David Thomas Broughton. A second album, Thirteen Lost and Found, was released at the start of 2012, produced by Alex Kapranos and featuring contributions by friends including Alasdair Roberts, Emma Pollock, Aidan Moffat and Hanna Tuulikki.
